RECIPES AND BAKING

Who eats all your baked goodies?

I usually share my sweet treats with my family and friends, who happily devour them and provide me with invaluable feedback in recipe development.

How do you develop your recipes?

My recipes have lovingly been developed from a variety of sources. Mentors who inspire me and favourite cookbooks, popular bakeries, patisseries, food bloggers and celebrity chefs whom I have worked with.

Can I substitute an ingredient?

This is entirely up to you. If you feel like experimenting then please do, it’s all about having fun! I understand due to certain dietary restrictions or ingredient availability, some swaps might be necessary at times. However, be prepared that altering a recipe might not always bring you success and it’s very difficult to provide guidance.

If you do try and it’s successful for you, do share with us in the comments section at the bottom of the original recipe. Adaptations and ideas are always well received and I and other people will much appreciate it.

Why didn’t this recipe work for me?

This can happen for several reasons and the fault is not necessarily in the makeup of the recipe nor is it a mistake on the part of the person trying to recreate it. In cooking and baking, there is a delicate balance of chemistry. Sometimes that balance can be impacted by things you might not think of right away, such as the humidity and sea level of where you are located. Other times it is down to accidental mistakes, and in this case, you should ask yourself the following questions, for example: Did you measure correctly? Does your oven have hot spots? Did you substitute anything? Were your ingredients fresh?

If you have done troubleshooting yourself and cannot find the mistake, do let me know and if I get multiple inquires about a recipe. I will make every effort to check it and make sure it turns out exactly the way I intended it to.

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT

What kind of camera and lenses do you use?

I use a Nikon D750, this is a full-frame camera and is a good all-rounder for food photography. It’s a real investment but I highly recommend it and has taken my pictures to the next level.

What kind of lens do you use?

I have two primary lenses: Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens and a Nikkor 105mm f/2.8

What software do you use?

I shoot with natural light and I use Adobe Lightroom to edit all of my pictures.

BLOGGING AND COMMENTS

Can you help me with my blog?

Unfortunately, I cannot. I am a self-taught blogger myself and have spent much time reading, listening to others more experienced than me and researching online before venturing into writing my own. It does take a fair amount of time and effort, so you really need to be in love and passionate about it!

Why didn’t my comment get approved?

I am always happy to hear your thoughts. I encourage everyone to leave friendly/respectful comments or questions and I invite you to help me keep this a fun environment where we can all enjoy sharing our love of food. Inappropriate or offensive material will not be accepted.
